Class 7 Handout

Dreamweaver Lesson 1. How it works. Understanding the Dreamweaver interface. Basic overview of how the application works. Chapters 1 and 2 of the class book.

1. Review of homework -
We will look at our Wayne URLs to see them online with the tables.

2. What is Dreamweaver? Why is it so cool? -
Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) program that allows you to design and develop websites without having to hand edit HTML code. Macromedia Dreamweaver has a well-deserved reputation for being a capable Web design package, and contains support for both graphical design and direct coding of HTML. It also has some site management features and integration with sister packages Flash and Fireworks for Web graphics work. It's the way to go if you want to be a professional web developer.

3. Tour of the Interface -

1) The objects panel/types of objects.
2) The property inspector.

3) The launcher/mini launcher/launcher shortcuts.
4) The toolbar.
5) Document window size.
6) Defining your browser of choice.

3. Let's build a page together using Dreamweaver -
1) Let's open our Wayne Kramer homepage and save it as index2.htm.

2) We will now experiment with Dreamweaver by modifying this page to create a different look.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:
1) Read chapters I and II and III of the Dreamweaver book.
2) Think about what will be your midterm project website. It should have 4-6 sections. Be sure you have easy access or can create the content (photos, text, music, video), etc.
